Classic 7 Layer Salad

Ingredients

1 medium head lettuce, shredded

1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped

1/2 cup red bell pepper, chopped

1/2 cup green onion, chopped

1/2 cup celery, chopped

1 package (10 ounce) frozen green peas, partially thawed and uncooked

1 cup mayonnaise

3 Tablespoons granulated sugar

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Cooked, crumbled bacon or bacon bits, if desired

Directions:

In a clear glass or trifle bowl, add ingredients in layers as follows:

1. lettuce
2. green and red pepper
3. green onion
4. celery
5. peas
6. Stir together mayonnaise and sugar. Dot over salad and spread carefully over top to cover.
7. Top with grated cheese and bacon bits (optional).

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
