Black History Month

February is Black History Month

At TOPS, we're committed to honoring & celebrating the culture, achievements and history of African Americans during Black History Month, as well as throughout the year...

The purpose of this month is to recognize and pay tribute to the contributions of Black Americans and develop a better understanding of the Black experience. The celebration of Black History Month is greatly owed to Dr. Carter D. Woodson, who first launched "Negro History Week" in 1926.   Woodson chose February because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly impacted the American black population: Abraham Lincoln (who freed slaves during the Civil War), and Frederick Douglass (leader of the abolitionist movement which fought to end slavery).

By clicking on the links to the left, you will find the special events going on in our stores this month, as well as ideas to help you share in the celebration.
