It’s National Women’s Health Week! In addition to scheduling regular check-ups and screenings with your doctor, there are things you can do every day to maintain your good health and reduce the risk of many health issues common to women:
  • Get enough calcium. Adults need about 1,000 to 1,200 mg of calcium a day. Most postmenopausal women need 1,500 mg a day. It is also important to get 400 to 800 IU of vitamin D, which helps your body absorb calcium.

  • Do weight-bearing exercise. Talk with your doctor about walking, jogging or strength-training programs.

  • Consume a low-fat, high-fiber diet. Eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products.
