Brightly colored fruits and vegetables provide the best source of antioxidants, which are substances that help protect our health in dramatic ways. Antioxidants stop and sometimes even repair damage to our cells caused by harmful molecules called free radicals. Research shows that halting this damage may help prevent cancer, heart disease and other health problems, especially those related to age.

Make sure you body is getting all the antioxidants it needs by including a rainbow of produce favorites in your daily diet.

Look for yellow fruits and vegetables like corn, bananas, lemons and squash. You can get your daily amounts of vitamins found in orange fruits and vegetables from cantaloupe, tangerines, and mango. Reward your body with the antioxidant benefits in blue and purple produce by choosing blueberries, purple grapes and eggplant. Tomatoes, cherries and watermelon are tasty ways to incorporate the color red into your antioxidant-rich diet. Go green with a variety of fruits and vegetables like green apples, limes, broccoli, peas and zucchini. Don’t forget to include white produce items like cauliflower, mushrooms and pears.
