Got water?
This is a question we should be asking ourselves every day. The Food and Drug Administration suggests you drink 8 ounces of water 6–8 times a day to help keep your body functioning properly. Drinking a sufficient amount of fluids is important especially during the hot summer months.
In addition to water, milk and 100% juice are also good choices because of the nutrients they provide. Instead of apple and pear juices which provide few nutrients, try to drink vitamin-rich citrus, prune and vegetable juices.
When you’re exercising this summer, it’s also recommended that you drink 5–12 fluid ounces of water every 15–20 minutes during your activity. Don’t forget to keep children hydrated as well by having them take a water bottle when biking, hiking or even just playing outdoors.
