Family Health Tips

We know that keeping your family healthy can sometimes be a challenge. Although trying to juggle healthy eating and exercise with children’s activities and work schedules may take some effort, you’ll find that devoting attention to your family’s health can pay great rewards in the long run. Check out the fun ideas below and make healthy living a family affair at your house.

Get some exercise – plan weekly family activities that get your heart pumping.  Sign up for the President’s Challenge and make fitness a key part of your life while earning rewards for your efforts.

Let everyone take turns planning a healthy meal each week.  This will help everyone learn better food choices. Click here for ideas.

Plan an active vacation – try hiking, biking, kayaking or horse back riding.  Look into resorts that offer many activities for the family or single destination vacations like white water rafting.  Also take notice of what fitness programs and equipment are offered as part of your vacation package. 

Get your vitamins and minerals daily. If you can’t get them from your diet, consider taking a multi-vitamin or supplement. 

Oral health can be a foundation for overall health.  Make sure to visit your dentist at least every six months for a check up. Change your toothbrush every three months and don’t forget to brush and floss at least twice daily. Help keep your mouth clean and healthy with valuable resources available from the American Dental Association.

Make sure all family members can administer basic first aid and CPR if needed. The American Red Cross and local community organizations offer classes to teach you the basics on first aid, safety and CPR.
